Onofre, who rents out boats, uses the income to cover the needs of their family. For him, it’s important that their operations continue, especially this Christmas.
He also can’t help but worry about how the rehabilitation of Burnham Park will affect his business.
The rehabilitation of the park was originally set to begin in 2020, but after five years, it will finally proceed in 2025. However, Onofre is ready for it.
According to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, the rehabilitation was supposed to start this December, but it has been postponed to January or the first quarter of 2025.
According to TIEZA, the Burnham Lake will not be significantly affected by the project.
TIEZA has allocated 700 million pesos for the project, which is expected to be completed in four years.
According to TIEZA, the funds for the development of Burnham Park have already been recovered after tourism in the country rebounded. However, the release of the funds will be gradual.
Some tourists, however, believe that while beautifying the park is essential, addressing the heavy traffic flow should also be a priority.
Last year, TIEZA promised 100 million pesos to start the project, but it was delayed again.
TIEZA will use the plan created by the Technical Working Group formed by the City Council for the rehabilitation project.
