Residents of Sitio Imbo, a remote village in Barangay Uyong, Labrador, Pangasinan, are no longer in the dark after their request for lighting was fulfilled through a government initiative.
The First Spouses League of Pangasinan, led by Chairperson Maan Tuazon Guico and Governor Ramon V. Guico III, responded to the community’s appeal made during the Christmas season.
The village, home to the indigenous Kankanaey people, has long been without electricity.
To reach the area, officials and workers hiked for hours through mountains and crossed rivers.
Solar-powered lights were installed as part of the “Christmas Lighting with a Purpose” project.
Quintin Marinas, the village chieftain, expressed gratitude for the long-awaited help. Emotional resident Delia Pastor shared how they previously relied on gas lamps for lighting. “This is the first time we won’t have to fumble in the dark,” she said.
The project symbolizes the provincial government’s commitment to bring services even to the farthest communities, delivering not just physical light, but hope and progress to upland barangays.
