RESUMPTION OF BAGUIO-CEBU FLIGHTS, REMAINS UNCERTAIN

Aling Liza sells various goods in her store, which is located right across the terminal of Loakan Airport.

Her usual customers are local residents and passersby,

but she shared that her sales were much better when Baguio to Cebu flights were operational.

“For example, when a flight gets delayed, everyone comes out and buys snacks. They almost sell out all my snacks, soft drinks, water, things like that,” said Liza, a storekeeper.

Although some residents are not in favor of the flights resuming, she still hopes that her business will regain its vitality if Philippine Airlines resumes its operations at the airport this November.

However, it seems unlikely at this time.

The airline’s board will still deliberate on whether to proceed.

It can be recalled that the Baguio to Cebu flights were halted in July this year, with operations initially expected to resume this November.

The airline has not yet issued a statement on when flights will resume, while the city government remains open to other airlines interested in operating at the airport.

While there are still no flights, the Department of Transportation continues to conduct repairs at the airport terminal.

Repairs began in January, but during the process, several unforeseen issues emerged.

Because of this, some parts of the repair work have been suspended while changes to the plan are being awaited due to the discovered problems.

Currently, only 7% of the repairs have been completed.

There is no certainty yet as to when repairs will be completed, which were initially expected to finish in October.

The project is valued at 40.9 million pesos and is expected to increase the terminal’s capacity to 140 people from the previous 80.
