Salary increase for Government Employees to be implemented

The government is ready to implement the salary increase for its employees, this follows the approval of Executive Order No. 64 by the President, meanwhile, job order and contract of service employees are also included.

Victoria, a barangay councilor from Barangay South Drive, Baguio City, earns ten thousand pesos a month.

Even though all her children have finished their studies, her salary is still insufficient for hear and her husband’s daily needs.

“Yes, here in the barangay, with our small honorarium, there are times when we have to spend our own money for the snacks of our constituents who help with the clean up,” says Victoria Ochoco, a government employee.

(Oo, kapag kwan dito sa barangay, sa liit ng honorarium namin, mayroon ding time na kami ang naglalabas para sa pang-snacks ng mga constituents namin na tumutulong magclean up.)

The approval of the salary increase for government employees by President Ferdinand Marcos jr. is a great relief for her.

This is included in Executive Order No. 64, signed by the President on August 2.

“This is good news for us,” Ochoco added.

Aside from the salary increase, there is also an additional allowance.

This covers all civilian government personnel in all branches of the government.

It also includes constitutional commissions and other constitutional offices.

Government-owned or controlled corporations (GOCCs) not covered by RA 10149, or the “GOCC Governance Act of 2011,” and EO No. 150 (s.2021), as well as local government units (LGUs), are also included in EO64.

PBBM emphasized, “Furthermore, we have extended the contract services of our job order and contract of service personnel working in government. This will also assure them ample opportunity to work on their civil service eligibilities while gaining additional relevant experience in training to upgrade their qualifications.”

The salary increase will be implemented in for tranches.

The first tranche is retroactive from January 1, 2024, while the second, third, and fourth tranches will be implemented on the first day of 2025, 20226, and 2027.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has set aside 70 billion pesos for the first and second tranches.

Qualified government employees will also receive a medical allowance of 7,000 pesos per year as a subsidy to avail of Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) – type benefits.
