The province of Pangasinan is rich in bamboo.
Because of this, bamboo products have become a livelihood for residents, such as the production of sawali, a woven bamboo mat that the town of Mabini takes pride in.
Sawali is traditionally used in constructing houses.
But during the Paskuhan sa Kapitolyo 2024 in Lingayen last December 7, sawali became canvases.
This was for the painting contest held as part of the arts festival in the Christmas Village.
Here, the creativity of the youth shone as they showcased their painting skills.
The event was spearheaded by the Pangasinan Provincial Library.
“We, at the Pangasinan Provincial Library, are like Santa Claus tonight. Just relax, watch, enjoy, and join in. You might even win!” said Ma. Cynthia Encarnita Vila, Provincial Librarian.
In addition to the dance and song performances, various games were prepared for the children.
Of course, performances by Capitol employees and the youth delighted attendees.
“It’s fun, it’s beautiful,” said Rosario Decano, a resident.
More activities are expected for the Paskuhan sa Kapitolyo 2024, brought to you by the provincial government led by Governor Ramon V. Guico III, Vice Governor Mark Ronald DG. Labino, and Paskuhan sa Kapitolyo Honorary Chairperson Maan Tuazon-Guico.
