SBP, TEACHES BASKETBALL FUNDAMENTALS TO BAGUIO YOUTH

BY: VANESSA BUGTONG

More than 40 children from Baguio City participated in a basketball clinic organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on April 12, where they learned basic basketball skills and discipline.

Among the young participants were nine-year-old Sophia Espejo and ten-year-old Godwin Bayudang, who both expressed their passion for the sport. “I love playing basketball. It’s my passion,” Sophia said.

Godwin added that he dreams of becoming a well-known basketball player to make his parents proud.

The clinic covered fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, footwork, shooting, and ball control.

SBP Coach Julie Amos emphasized that the activity was not only about teaching basketball but also about instilling discipline and encouraging active participation among the youth.

“Summer is approaching and many students have nothing to do,” said Amos. “This clinic introduces basketball as a healthy option during the break.”

Through events like these, aspiring young athletes from Baguio continue to dream of one day representing the city in national and international basketball competitions.
