The three game winning streak of Apaya National Master Mhage Gerriahlou Sebastian came to a grinding halt Saturday night when she fell to Azerbiajan Woman FIDE Master Laman Hajiyeva in round six of the World Junior Chess Championship in Sardinia, Italy.
Sebastian was riding high on a three game streak after back to back defeats in the first two rounds when she faced the 21stย ranked Azebiajan.
After losing to 11thย seed Michalina Rudzinska, the Far Easter Univeristy โ Diliman senior high bowed to Dimitra Lydia Danilidi of Greece before bouncing back strong to trounce Uruguayan Pilar Silvera. This was followed by a victory over South African Chloe Badenhorst before coming up with an upset on the 31stย seed WFM Gabja Simkunathe (Elo 2014) of Lithuania.
Sebastian, who has three points, will next face a much higher rated player in WFM Gulaney Aydin who has an Elo rating of 2109 and 24thย seed in the 20 under girls side.
Fourth seed Woman Grand Master Govhar Beydullayeva (Elo 2356) of Azebiarjan scored a sixth round win on seventh seed WGM Nutakki Priyanka (Elo 2326) of India to take the sole leadership in the 66 women field with 5.5 points.
She will face top seed International Master Nurguyl Salimova of Bulgaria in the seventh round. The top seed (Elo 2415) drew his sixth round game with second seed Woman International Master Meruert Kamalidenova (Elo 2376) of Kazakhstan, who shares the second to fourth place with the top seed and 31stย seed WIM Assel Srikbay (Elo 2181) with five points.
Three players are another half point behind, while 11 players sit at eighth to 18thย place with four points.
Meanwhile, in the Open category, Alekhine Nouri fell to seventh seed GM Mahammad Muradi (Elo 2550) of Azebiarjan. The loss saw Nouri fall to 79thย spot, his starting rank with 2.5 points.
It was the second loss for Nouri on top of his single win and two draws against much higher rated players.
