Senior citizen, arrested in La Union for selling illegal drugs; millions worth of marijuana, destroyed in Benguet

A 61-year-old man was arrested after allegedly selling illegal drugs in Naguilian, La Union.

Authorities from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 1 identified the suspect only as alias “Kurt,” a resident of Barangay Ortiz.

He was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted past midnight on April 15.

Confiscated from the suspect were two sachets of suspected shabu weighing around six grams each, a cellphone, several empty sachets, buy-bust money, and other items.

Authorities estimate the total value of the seized drugs at 40,800 pesos.

The suspect is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, PDEA, in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other agencies, uprooted and burned an estimated 13,000 marijuana plants from three separate sites in Bakun, Benguet on April 12.

The destroyed plants were estimated to be worth 7.5 million pesos.

No cultivators were arrested during the operation.
