BY: JOSE ROBERT INVENTOR

A 73-year-old man died after being hit in a vehicular crash involving two motorcycles and two SUVs in Santo Tomas, La Union.

Abelardo Tinglao was riding as a backrider on a motorcycle when another motorcycle, driven by a younger man, rammed into them on the national highway in Barangay Damortis on Sunday morning, May 4.

“They had stopped in the middle of the road waiting for a clear path. When the coast was clear, they turned left, and that’s when they got hit,” said PMSG Apolonio Rabanan, case investigator from Santo Tomas MPS. “The black Honda Wave motorcycle was struck.”

The impact also involved two SUVs, which police said may have been forced to stop due to traffic build-up following the crash.

Two motorcycle riders were injured in the accident.

Tinglao was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead while being treated.

“The one who was really hit hard was the backrider, he was the one struck by the Rusi motorcycle,” Rabanan confirmed.

Authorities are still waiting to find out if the victim’s family plans to press charges or settle the matter privately.
