It has been two decades since the Senior Citizens’ Building was established in Barangay Bangao, Buguias, Benguet.
The building has served as a gathering place for senior citizens.
However, over time, maintaining the facility has become a challenge.
“When it rains heavily, water leaks inside. It’s also difficult to save money for maintenance,” said Rosa Organo, Treasurer of the Senior Citizens – Bangao, Buguias, Benguet.
During a visit by the Raffy Tulfo in Action Center Northern Luzon, led by George Mendoza Punasen, the worries of the senior citizens were alleviated.
George brought financial assistance that they can use for whatever they need.
“We’ll use the financial aid for maintenance,” Organo added.
Aside from financial help, the group also brought gifts, including rice, bread, and other essentials.
“Thank you so much to those who gave these gifts,” said Gabina Marcos Sab-it, a senior citizen.
“Thank you for coming here and for the gifts you brought,” said Conchita Soligem, a senior citizen.
George Punasen, Raffy Tulfo in Action Center Northern Luzon, mentioned, “This is part of our group’s holiday gift-giving, especially for those in remote areas.”
Reaching these places takes hours of travel from their office, not to mention the additional hours of hiking required to reach remote sitios.
Despite this, George and his group remain dedicated to their mission.
The smiles on the faces of residents and their gratitude fuel George Punasen and his team to continue delivering quality public service in the provinces of Benguet.
