BREAKING NEWS!

Several LGUs in Ilocos Sur have conducted forced evacuations due to rising levels and widespread flooding

  • Several vehicles stranded after a bridge in the town of Narvacan was damaged

Drone footage captured this morning in Barangay San Pedro, Narvaca shows a line of stranded vehicles.

The bridge to the barangay was damaged, leaving an estimated 50 vehicles unable to pass.

This also poses a problem for evacuating residents in the barangay.

“It’s possibly they will have to stay there for now, as no one can pass through due to road construction,” sayds PLT. Johnny Alibin, Deputy Chief of police, Narvacan MPS.

(Possible po na doon na po muna sila, kasi wala pong makadaan doon dahil ginagawa ang daan.)

Additionally, 14 other barangays have experienced flooding.

“There are more than 1,085 families affected. 14 barangays are slightly flooded, and 2 are isolated, ma’am,” Alibin added.

  • Three barangays in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur are inaccessible due to river overflow

It’s difficult for vehicles to pass through Barangay Babal-Lasiaon and nearby barangays in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

The bridge was submerged after the river overflowed, leaving residents stranded.

They fear the surge of water from the neighboring province of Abra.

“The downward slope is a problem, and the distance to a possible relocation site is quite far. It seems the budget was insufficient,” says PB. Anjong Dasalla, Barangay Babal-Lasiaon, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

(Medyo pasulong kasi yung sa pababa, atsaka malayo layo po kasi yung pwee sanang paglagyan. Ewan ko, parang kinulang ata ng budget.)

  • Major rivers in Ilocos Sur have overflowed

The water level in the Abra River in the town of Bantay has surpassed the critical level, flooding some homes.

The Amburayan River in the town of Tagudin has also reached critical levels, affecting more than 5 barangays with flooding.

Strict monitoring is ongoing at the river in the town of Quirino, where the overflow bridge has been swallowed by the river.

In the town of Galimuyod, thick mud has covered some roads, riprap has collapsed, and efforts are being made to clean the clogged canals.

The full extent of the damage caused by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon remains uncertain as bad weather continues in the province.
