SHAPING THE NEXT ARTISTS OF THE CITY, MADE THROUGH FREE ART LESSON

In every shape and line drawn by these children on their palms, their dreams and artistic talents are slowly taking shape.

Like four-year-old Makaveli, whose passion is drawing and playing piano.

“As early as now, I want to expose them to various industries, not just art but also sports, so that their growth can be maximized. But whatever they want to pursue, we will support them,” said Migo Señires, his parent.

Five-year-old Seth, on the other hand, dreams of becoming a police officer, but at his young age, he has already developed a passion for drawing.

“It varies, like today he said he wants to become an officer, then last week he said he wanted to become an engineer. It’s good to expose children to various fields in society,” said Ame-Phil Saquiban, Seth’s Mother.

They are just some of the nearly eleven participants in the free art workshop offered by a group of children in celebration of the Ibagiw Festival in Baguio City on Saturday, November 23.

“Number one is to acknowledge a child’s talent and skill. If they have creative potential, then we support it. Because later on, that’s the direction of their dreams,” said Arch. Jonard Don Jardenil, Sectoral Representative – Creative Baguio City Council.

The activity aims to shape and teach the knowledge children need to learn when it comes to painting and drawing.

“This is one of our initiatives to reach out with what we are doing in the council, and we also align this activity with World Children’s Month,” he added.

It also aims to inspire children to become future advocates of art and to protect the city’s title as a Creative City.
