SINKING ROAD IN BAGUIO CITY, POSES DANGER TO MOTORISTS

BY: VANESSA BUGTONG

A sinking section of the road in Barangay MRR Queen of Peace, Baguio City, has become a hazard for motorists, with residents reporting frequent accidents in the area.

A viral social media post showed a motorcycle that had tipped over due to deep depressions on the road. According to residents, at least two accidents occur there each month.

Marcelina Santos, a local resident, said the problem began after underground pipes were repaired, causing the road surface to weaken. The situation worsened over time, especially with heavy equipment frequently passing through the area for the construction of a nearby school.

The barangay has made the road one-way to reduce risks for motorists. Barangay Captain Raul Caronongan said that consultations were held before the school’s construction, and the contractor has promised to repair any road damage once the project is completed.

The barangay and the City Engineering Office are now in discussions on how to fix the problem. The contractor has assured local officials that road repairs will be prioritized once the school construction is finished later this year.
