Early in the morning, Lysander was already busy cutting grass.
The area was overgrown with vegetation and littered with trash. But while cleaning, he came across something wrapped tightly in a jacket.
“I struck it with my bolo knife, but it wouldn’t tear, and then I realized it was covered by a curtain, which made it hard to open. So, I pulled the curtain apart. When I dug into it, I thought, ‘This seems like a person,’ because it still had hair and a skull,” Lysander Monteverde, Worker, narrated.
After his discovery, a barangay councilor happened to pass by the area.
“It just so happened that a police mobile passed by. I flagged them down, and when they stopped, we went down together to confirm what it was,” said Kagawad Ariel Amino of Barangay Bakakeng Central.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) from the Baguio City Police Office arrived, and based on their initial investigation.
According to PLt. Greg Utang, Forensic Team Leader – SOCO, BCPO, “It appears to be a child’s bones because you can see the small size of the bones, especially the skull.”
The BCPO has yet to determine the infant’s gender, age, and how long it has been dead.
This is the second time a body has been found in the same location, just meters away from the barangay hall.
“It’s so pitiful. Why throw it there? Why not bury it properly? It’s a person, not an animal,” said Monteverde.
“We might consider installing CCTVs because the issue is with procuring them. The ones we have are already obsolete. This should be one of our priorities,” Amino mentioned.
The discovered skeleton will undergo a thorough examination by SOCO.
