SLU is top pharmacy school, among country’s best 16 schools

With Saint Louis University named as the top performing school in producing pharmacists in the country this year with one of its students among the top 10 finishers, the biggest university north of Manila may just show why it was ranked as one of the country’s best schools for the year, an university rankings among Asian schools showed recently.

SLU had 107 of 111 examinees passing or a passing rate of 96.40 in the November 2022 Pharmacist licensure examinations besting top universities of the country including De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas which had passing rates of 92.31 percent (48 of 52) and 91.83 percent (281 of 306) for schools with more than 50 pr more examinees.

San Pedro College of Davao City ranked fourth with 89.84 percent on 115 of 128 examinees passing, while University of the the Immaculate Conception of Davao placing fifth on 114 passers of 129 examinees or 88.37.

The rest of the top eight schools are Our Lady of Fatima University of Antipolo City at 83.56 percent (61/73), Southwestern University 43/53 or 81.13 percent and Centro Escolar University of Malolos City with 41 passers of 51 or 80.39 percent rate.

Maurice Kezhia Loquisan Macatangay, meanwhile, finished with a 92.15 percent to would up fifth in the licensure exams topped by Ritch Joshua Villadarez of University of the Immaculate Conception of Davao with a 92.65 percent rate.

UST’s Honey Lynn Isip (92.55 percent) finished second, followed by another UST alum Reign Walter Matthew Cirineo (92.20) and Our Lady of Fatima University – Pampanga, Inc. student Jaina Nicole Quiambao at fourth (92.18).

Three other UST students finished maong the top 10.

Meanwhile, the Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings (QS AUR) for the region’s top universities has listed SLU among the best 16 schools of the country joining holdovers University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), and UST.

The 16 schools are among the 760 Asian universities that appeared on the ranking created which is similar to that used in the QS World University Rankings. Additional indicators and adapted weightings were designed to reflect key priorities for universities in Asia as assessed by regional experts and stakeholders.

The ranking released last November 8 include UP as the best placed school at number 87 (412th in the world), followed by Ateneo at 134 (651-700 in the world), DLSU at third or number 171 in Asia and 801-1000 in the world, while UST comes in at number 175 and 801-1000 in the world.

The 12 other universities in the QS AUR are: Ateneo de Davao University, Mapua University and Siliman University at 551 – 600. At number 601 to 650 are: Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology at 601-650, SLU and Xavier University. On the other hand, at 651to700 are Adamson University, the Cebu Technological University, Central Luzon State University Central Mindanao University and Central Philippine University.

Lyceum of the Philippines University completes the list by sitting at number 701 to 750.

The 11 indicators used by the QS AUR in percentage are: academic reputation (30), Employer reputation (20), faculty to student ratio (10), international research network (10), citations per paper (10) and papers per faculty (5), staff with a doctorate degree (5), proportion of international faculty (2.5) and proportion of international students (2.5), proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5).
