Darkness poses a danger on the paths of Sitio Shontog, Barangay San Pascual, Tuba, Benguet.
Residents walk nearly 15 minutes from the highway to their homes through a stretch with no lighting.
“It’s dangerous, especially when it rains,” said Jesselyn Agayao, a resident.
Today, their request was fulfilled.
Five solar lights were installed with the help of the residents. This was made possible by George Punasen’s group.
Aside from Sitio Shontog, Sitio Anaaw also faces similar issues.
According to 74-year-old Nanay Luz, in her entire life, their sitio has never had electricity.
They have long brought this issue to the attention of the Benguet Electric Cooperative.
They are calling for Sitio Electrification Program of Beneco to prioritize their area.
This would significantly ease the lives of the residents.
George’s group will continue visiting remote communities to address the needs of their fellow citizens.
