From the idea that Filipinos excel in sports, Erick, however, strength and talent are wasted if athletes do not receive enough support.
“Because of our passion for our careers, we still do our best, pursuing other ways to become athletes,” said Eric Kelly, retired Mixed Martial Artist.
Support is essential, even for the materials used by athletes, especially when training.
“On our part, we also need to submit a request letter,” said Mark Basatan, Football Coach at Baguio City National High School.
The training of Filipino athletes to become world champions has been answered by the Marcos Jr. administration.
This is marked by the opening of the Sorsogon Sports Arena on October 17, which will serve as the national sports training camp for Filipino athletes.
This coincides with the celebration of Sorsogon Province’s 130th founding anniversary.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate all the Sorsoganons on the 130th anniversary of your province and the 50th Kasanggayahan Festival. Today, we gather to inaugurate the Sorsogon Sports Arena, now the pride of the Bicol Region,” said President Ferdinand Marcos.
The arena can accommodate an estimated 12,000 people.
“This is a significant step toward promoting our fellow countrymen with exceptional skills in sports. With this, they will be given the opportunity to further develop their talents. Hopefully, we can add more to our ranks of Olympians and Filipino athletes,” PBBM added.
The Sorsogon Sports Arena also symbolizes the continued perseverance, hard work, and progress of the Bicol region.
