A store in Baguio City was burglarized over the weekend, with the suspect taking off with jewelry, cash, and other items.
According to the store owner, Bebot, she discovered the incident on Saturday morning, April 12, upon opening the store.
Merchandise was scattered on the floor and some equipment had fallen, signaling that someone had broken in.
The metal bars on the store’s window had been sawed off—believed to be the suspect’s point of entry.
“Upon entering, I saw everything scattered. At first, I thought it was just the cats, but then I saw the window was opened,” Bebot said.
Her son-in-law pointed to a hole in the wall where they believe the suspect entered.
He recalled that this was not the first time the store had been targeted, saying the previous break-in cost them around 70,000 pesos to 80,000 pesos, which was originally meant for a medical procedure for his mother.
The suspect reportedly stole approximately 6,000 pesos worth of coins, several pieces of jewelry, merchandise, and a watch given to Bebot by her son-in-law. “It had sentimental value. I didn’t even wear it because of that,” she added.
The family has since secured the entry point with a barrier and plans to install a CCTV system.
The Baguio City Police Office has issued a reminder to the public, especially during Holy Week, to secure their homes and avoid posting their whereabouts online. They also urge residents to report any suspicious individuals in their area.
As of this writing, Baguio City Police Station 5 has yet to release a statement on the investigation.
