Tam-Awan leads Museums and Galleries month in SM City Baguio exhibit

In celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, SM City Baguio hosts the 14th Tam-Awan International Arts Festival (TIAF) exhibit with works from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The exhibit opened on October 4, 2024 former Presidential Secretary Atty Trixie Cruz Angeles with Davao representative, Kubali Millan, president of Lawig-Diwa Incorporated, Visayas representative, Kimberly Rmirez of the Orange Project and Chanum Foundation president, Jordan Mang-osan from Luzon.

Angeles said the exhibition puts together narratives of each community’s heritage’s seen in each masterpiece, keeping the identity of the origin of the art piece which ultimately contributes to nation building.

The exhibit, themed, “Vernacular Identities,” displays 40 curated pieces which mirrors the many facets art of the three main islands of the country, building an identity for artists and artisans to interpret through their works gathers masterpieces from Philippines in a group show.

The inter-island exhibition was opened by a cultural presentation by the the delegation of Bo-i Edmarie Inda and her sister Bo-i Edralyn of Datu Inda, President Roxas, Capiz and Frienzy Batingkay of Bulatukan, Makilala North Cotabato, championing the heritage of the Mindanao.

The 14th TIAF is themed “Empowering the Artist through Community Galleries,” backed by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) from October 3 to 6, 2024 which gathered 600 artists, artisans and culture bearers.

The festival aims to bring together a diverse range of artists to be able to and connect and network regional groups to galleries and studios and open opportunities for registered groups as well as to highlight the importance of the symbiotic relationship of artists and galleries.

Chanum Foundation Inc. and Tam-Awan Village has staged a multi venue exhibition for the 14th Tam-awan International Arts Festival (TIAF 14) held in two of the Tam awan Village galleries, Campfolkswagen and SM City Baguio.

The annual celebration is a testament to the community of artists and artisan not only in Baguio City but the entire country who flock to support the Chanum Foundation Inc., and Tam-awan Village in the endeavor to make the arts relevant, economically viable for communities and accessible to everyone a reality.
