BREAKING NEWS!

The Philippines is now considered the epicenter of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children

3,000 pesos, for a simple picture of a child, but if less clothing is involved or inappropriate acts are requested, the price goes even higher.

This is the rampant trade on online platforms in the country.

According to a study by the International Justice Mission, one out of every one hundred Filipino children falls victim to this.

What’s worse, even infants are not spared, according to the PNP.

Shockingly, it is often the victimโ€™s own relatives, friends, or acquaintances who are responsible.

“It was the first time that I heard that the Philippines is the epicenter of child pornography, and as a Filipino, it is such a negative word to hear,โ€ says DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos Jr.

Activities such as chatting, cybersex, and child pornography are some of the terms used to describe this issue.

This growing concern is now being closely monitored by the Baguio City Police Office, especially after they recorded their first case of online sexual abuse this 2024.

In Barangay Kabayanihan, while no cases of Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) have been reported, the local officials remain vigilant.ย ย

Charito, a survivor, bravely shared her traumatic experiences at the hands of online foreign sex offenders during the “Iisang Nayon, Iisang Aksyon: Tapusin ang OSAEC Ngayon Summit 2024.”

President Marcos Jr. also gave an emotional message on the issue.

He emphasized that no child or anyone should have to experience such a crime and urged all Filipinos to work together to finally end this heinous crime.

“For us to allow this to happen in our country, it brings to me an overwhelming feeling of shame. We must do more, this is not about money, it is about ensuring the future. Let us keep them strong, in doing so, we are keeping our future safe,โ€ PBBM said.

If there are any suspicious activities, immediately report to local authorities.ย ย

Those caught will face charges under Republic Act 11930 or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act and the Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act.
