Filipinos love dishes that are easy to cook yet guaranteed to make you eat a lot of rice.
One of these is Tortang Talong, the classic eggplant omelet that many of us pack for lunch or enjoy as a meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
But did you know that it’s not just Filipinos who love this dish?
Yesterday, February 20, the international food guide TasteAtlas recognized Tortang Talong as the second most delicious egg dish in the world!
TasteAtlas is a well-known food ranking site that reviews dishes from different countries.
In their latest list of the best egg-based dishes, the Philippines’ Tortang Talong received a 4.4-star rating, surpassing other famous dishes worldwide!
But why do so many people love it?
First, it’s affordable and easy to cook.
With just one eggplant and a few eggs, you already have a tasty meal—and you can even add ground meat or cheese to make it even more flavorful.
Second, it pairs well with various dipping sauces like ketchup, soy sauce with vinegar, or fish sauce with tomatoes.
But it’s not just a favorite among Filipinos.
Studies show that eggplant is rich in antioxidants and fiber, which are beneficial for health.
Mixing it with eggs adds protein, making it not just delicious but also nutritious.
With this recognition, more foreigners are becoming interested in tasting Tortang Talong.
This proves that even simple Filipino dishes can compete with international cuisines!
