Eleven vehicles were damaged after an Isuzu wing truck lost its brakes and rolled backward along Kennon Road in Sitio Camp 6, Barangay Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet, early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at around 5:30 a.m., leaving a jeepney and three motorcycles severely damaged after being hit by the truck.
Police said the wing truck initially struck a jeepney traveling behind it. Due to the strong impact, the jeepney was pushed backward and hit several parked vehicles along the road.
“There was a brake failure, causing the truck to reverse and hit the jeep behind it. The force of the impact pushed the jeep into the other parked vehicles,” said Police Captain Marlon Papco-o, police community relations officer of the Tuba Municipal Police Station.
Fortunately, the jeepney had no passengers at the time of the accident.
Authorities temporarily closed Kennon Road to motorists following the incident to clear the damaged vehicles from the area. The road was reopened to traffic past 10 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
The driver of the wing truck, a 41-year-old resident of Apugan, Sto. Tomas Central, Baguio City, will undergo an alcohol test to determine if he was under the influence at the time of the accident.
He may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property.
The total cost of the damage has yet to be determined as the investigation continues.
