University of Baguio and the Kings College of the Philippines  helped Team Cordillera to  a fourth place finish in the Private School Athletic Association in Zamboanga City over the weekend.

This as Western Visayas  won both the senior and junior divisions of the annual competition for private learning institution and the overall title.

Team Cordillera earned 43 gold medal 29 silver and 34 bronze medals for 106 medals in the 15 region meet. Region 6 athletes meanwhile topped the event with a 96-36-45 medal haul to top with 177 total medals, while Region 7 or Central Visayas amassed more medals with 195 but finished second on a 79-57-59 G-S-B haul.

UB practically almost single handedly made the Cordillera proud as it tallied 31-22-27 haul to lead the mountain athletes to the respectable finish with the University  of the Cordilleras missing the event with its athletic director instead choosing the Palarong Pambansa cluster elimination in Laoag, Ilocos Sur where he was head of volleyball officiating.

KCP provided the extra effort as it chipped in 12-4-7 in the region’s effort, while Baguio Central University added three silver medals.

The Cordillerans could have had a podium finish in youth girls beach volley when it lost Grade 11 Hilary Balaki of KCP who injured her toes during the second set of their semifinals match against Region X. CAR was looking at 10-13 when Balaki said that she cannot continue playing due to pain from her toes which she injured when she tripped on the fishnets the host placed at the 8 x 16 court.

The youth girls team is also composed of KCP Grade 11  Lyka Mae Dolteo and Harriet Duday grade 11 BCU.

Region XII or Socksargen came in third overall with a 46-61-63 haul.

Region IV-B or CaLaBaRzon  ended fifth with 129 total medals on 35-51-43.
