On 2022, Barangay Santo Tomas Central, Baguio City recorded 11 stunted children.
These children were underweight, with weights not appropriate for their height and age.
โWe really help them, providing food supplements to the children,โ said Barangay Kagawad Susan Botangen, Committee on Health of Bangay Santo Tomas Central.
Due to the barangayโs initiative, only one child remains stunted this year.
Their promotion of urban gardening has significantly contributed to this improvement.
“Our program here really focuses on urban gardening for their nutrition and health,โ Botangen added.
Thatโs why Nanay Myrna now has her own vegetable garden at home.
“For good health, and we no longer need to buy vegetables, at least our own products are what we use,โ said Myrna Locanda, a resident.
To further promote this, Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. shared additional knowledge on urban gardening, such as planting in small spaces and using containers.
According to Baguio City Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr., an Urban Gardening Advocate, “In our view, we should further broaden knowledge about this… in all available spaces.”
Aside from the knowledge, the group also distributed seeds of various vegetables to those who attended the seminar.
