Villagers tip off Nueva Vizcaya arms cache

Villagers in Lipuga, Alfonso Castaneda town in Nueva Vizcaya spilled a secret arms depot of communist rebels leading to the discovery of three assault rifles and other war materiel by the military on Monday afternoon.

Troops from the 84th Infantry Battalion of the Joint Task Force Kaugnay recovered recovered two Bushmaster M16 rifles, one Colt M16 rifle, six hundred fourteen rounds (614) of 5.56mm ball ammunition, twenty-one rounds (21) of 7.62mm ammunition, eleven long 5.56mm steel magazine assemblies, eight (8) short 5.56mm steel magazine assemblies and three (3) bandoliers.

Northern Luzon Command said the soldiers received a tip from residents who have turned their backs against the rebels about the arms cache.

The recovered firearms and war materiel will be brought to the main camp of the 84th Infantry in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija for proper documentation and disposition.
