WHAT IS A HOROSCOPE?

BY: VALERIE ANN DISMAYA

Horoscope, or astrology, is an art that connects stars and planets to human destinies.

The word “horoscope” comes from the Greek term “horoskopos,” which means “observer of time.”

It was first discovered during the early civilization of Mesopotamia.

The Babylonians were the first to observe the connection between the movements of planets and stars and the daily lives of people.

Astrology initially served as a way to understand natural occurrences, such as weather and harvest cycles.

Eventually, it became a tool for predictions, not only for leaders and kings but also for ordinary individuals.

They used celestial charts to track planetary movements and their effects on nature and human life.

When the Greeks inherited the knowledge of astrology, it inspired notable philosophies, including the works of Plato and Aristotle.

Later, the Romans strengthened the system and introduced the zodiac signs we still use today.

Similar to zodiac signs, did you know that horoscopes are created based on your birth?

Astrologers establish what’s called a “natal chart” or birth chart for every newborn, based on the exact location of planets, stars, and other celestial bodies at the time of their birth.

There are twelve zodiac signs, each tied to distinct characteristics and personalities that seemingly reflect people’s fortunes.

To this day, many continue to believe in horoscopes.

Many Filipinos regularly check newspapers or mobile apps to see their daily horoscope.

Some believe it guides their decisions in love, career, finances, and daily luck.

While horoscopes may lack scientific basis, many still believe in them for the advice, reminders, and, of course, the good fortune they bring.

So, the question remains, do you believe in what the stars say?
