BY: VALERIE ANN DISMAYA

Today, January 6, marks the official end of the Christmas season.

This is celebrated as the Feast of the Three Kings.

But what exactly is it?

The Feast of the Three Kings, also called the Epiphany, has been observed by the Catholic Church since ancient times.

It commemorates the visit of the three kings to the newborn Jesus in the manger.

The term “Epiphany” means “manifestation,” symbolizing the revelation of Jesus as the Savior of the world, not just for the Jews but also for the Gentiles.

The Catholic Church initiated this celebration in the 4th century, teaching the story of the three kings who followed a guiding star to find the Savior.

They brought three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh, each bearing significant meaning.

Gold represents Jesus’ kingship, frankincense signifies His divinity, and myrrh foretells His suffering and death for humanity.

In Catholic tradition, the Feast of the Three Kings is regarded as the final day of the Christmas season.

It serves as the culmination of the Christmas celebration, concluding with the Epiphany.

The three kings symbolize the importance of recognizing the coming of the Messiah.

Their journey inspires everyone to seek the light that guides us toward peace and hope.
