The decomposing body of a woman was found near a creek in Barangay Legaspi, Tayug, Pangasinan, according to local police.
The discovery was made by a fisherman on Thursday.
The woman was reportedly wearing only denim jeans and had no upper clothing.
There were no signs of external injuries or trauma on her body, prompting authorities to request an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
“We requested an autopsy so we can understand the real cause of death,” said PLt. Clarence Cabucos, officer-in-charge of the Tayug Municipal Police Station.
Police estimate that the woman was around 30 to 35 years old, stood 5’2, and had a medium build.
The victim may have been dead for three to five days before she was found.
“As of now, no missing persons have been reported in Tayug. We’ve also reached out to nearby towns, but when some families viewed the body, they said it wasn’t their relative,” Cabucos added.
Authorities are considering two possibilities: first, the woman may have drowned and drifted into the area or second, was murdered and dumped in the creek.
“We are still conducting further investigation and reviewing nearby CCTV footage to find out what really happened,” Cabucos said.
The woman’s remains are currently being kept at a local funeral home in Tayug.
The police are appealing to the public for help in identifying the body.
