Ten months after his stoppage of Joe Tejones, the “wonder kid” from Ifugao is going back to the ring and a chance to wrest the Philippine super bantamweight belt.
Carl Jammes “Wonder Boy” Martin will face the “El Heneral” of Bukidnon, Mark Anthony Geraldo for the latter’s belt on November 28 in Tayak Hill in Rizal, Laguna.
Martin is going for 18th fight with the January showdown with Tejones where he showed the power that earned him the monciker “Wonder Boy” when the more experienced fighter fell on the fifth round with a body punch.
Martin has moved up to the higher weight category this year.
Meanwhile, the defending champion will be fighting anew after two postponed fights first due to the Covid-19 restriction, then a hand injury while training that forced promoter Yolanda Alfante of Shock Puncg Boxing Promotion to postpone the champion’s fight.
Geraldo, who has been cleared to fight, is reportedly training in Bukidnon at the gym of his veteran manager-trainer Leonil Lazarito.
The Geraldo-Martin fight is a bubble boxing event which will be held in coordination with Rizal, Laguna Mayor Vener Munoz, Vice Mayor Antonino Aurelio and Pablo Garcia.
Geraldo last fought against Lorence Rojas of Palawan City on Sept. 20, 2019 in Mandaluyong City where he scored an eighth round technical knockout win to retain his Philippine title.
With the win, Geraldo now totes a record of 38 wins with 19 knockouts against nine losses and three draws.
