Sandi Menchi Abahan returned to her roots and brought home three gold medals and two silvers in the National Masters and Seniors Athletics Association of the Philippines meet over the weekend. Abahan, who now concentrates on vertical climb, trail run and obstacle course race where she will compete in the Southeast Asian Games this May in Cambodia, won an individual gold in the 400 meter run.
She then went on to join the4 x 400 meter all women relay for the gold and the 4 x 100 meter all women relay for the same medal. Abahan earned a silver medal in the 2,000 meter steeplechase then completed her romp with another silver in the 4 x 400 meter mixed relay.
In her post, the Guiness Book of World Record holder for vertical climb which she set in Mount Kilimanjaro, said: “It has been a privilege to have been part of these awards: 2nd Runner up on Team Championship and Most Active Team Award.”
She added: “three days of competing with track athletes and I had fun going back to these roots of mine… I’m happy I did and got.” Abahan completed her romp in trail run when she won her category in the Mount Everest climb last year, while also finishing in the UTMB. Pigeon Lobien
