PangaSine 2024: Pangasinan Finally Launched Their First Film Festival

For the first time in Pangasinan, a film festival of narrative and documentary films is currently ongoing as one of the main events in the Sea Festival (Pista’y Dayat) 2024.

In a signed contract between Mr. Narciso N. Santos, Jr. and Governor Ramon Guico III, the PangaSINE Film Festival 2024 is exclusively catering to Pangasinense filmmakers apparent from this year’s theme, “Pangasinan Through the Lens of the Pangasinense”.

The deadline for registration was last March 24 wherein only five narrative and five documentary films will be shortlisted.

According to Media Relations Officer Dhobie P. De Guzman, the first-ever film festival aims to source, curate, and exhibit 10 outstanding short films by homegrown filmmakers; conduct short courses for students or individuals in story writing, screen/scriptwriting, producing, directing, cinematography/principal photography, sound editing and design, film/video editing, and film appreciation.

Whereas, there are also four crucial factors sought to be hoped through this festival: narratives from the past that greatly influenced the present-day Pangasinense; the vibrant and ever-changing culture of Pangasinan today; storytelling techniques that fuse the traditional and modern; and the hopes, dreams, triumphs, and challenges of the modern Pangasinense, especially the youth.

In relation to this, a free filmmaking workshop last April 6 to April 8 at the Sision Auditorium, Lingayen was held for 100 Pangasinense filmmakers aspirants.

Indeed, this is a testament to the Pangasinan Government in furthering the culture and beauty of Pangasinan through the talents of their people. | Cielo Angel Nicole Abendan
