Abance, Pacya power Benguet dancesport team to 11 golds in 2nd Cordillera dancefest

Two less heralded members of the Benguet Dancesport Team helped the squad to 11 golds in the recently concluded second Cordillera Festival at the Baguio Convention Center.

Ashley Abance and Caster Lan Pacya made good showing after accounting or helping out in amassing four gold medals each for BDT during the three nation, including 24 Philippine local government units, competitions last October 30.

Abance earned gold medals in junior 2 cha cha closed, junior 2 rhumba closed and junior 2 jive closed. He then later joined Eiji Justin Balao in taking the junior C Latin closed on top of second place finish in junior A Latin Open beating 1 other couples and third place in junior C Latin among 29 couples.

He also had top 9, 12  and 14 finishes in  junior rhumba open (52 competitors) junior cha cha open (65 competitors) and junior jive open (58 entries).

Pacya, on the other hand, won first place in junior 2 slow waltz closed, junior 2 tango closed and junior 2 quickstep closed and  was 11th of 26 participants in junior slow waltz open in the individual competitions.

Pacya later joined Kharanissa Borlongan and won a gold in junior C standard closed in the couple’s event then earned sixth place in the junior A standard open and 12th of 22 couples in junior C standard open.

Andrei Nate Benter also shone bright with a win in junior 1 slow waltz closed, aside from second place finish in junior 1 quick step closed and bronze medal in junior 1 tango. Benter also took 18th place out of 36 entries in junior slow waltz open.

In partnership with Precious Abenoja, the pair landed third in junior C open.

Regular partner Mico Dumalos and Mark Gonzalo Benter added a gold for the team after ruling the open adult duo, while Daisilyn Buliyat and Jayson Ace Abenoja were masters of the special event 2C standard in the couples event.

Borlongan herself win three silver medals also in the individual category when she placed second in: junor 2 slow waltz, junior 2 tango closed and junior quickstep closed.

Kate Dennishareign Cadacio had three podium finishes in juvenile slow waltz, juvenile 2 tango and and juvenile 2 quickstep.  She had decent finishes in three other events she joined in.

Khurtian Borlongan, meanwhile, took three bronze medals in juvenile 1 slow waltz closed, juvenile 1 tango closed and juvenile 1 quickstep closed.

Balao, meanwhile has a silver and bronze medal finishes in junior rhumba closed and junior junior jived closed, while a fourth place finish in junior cha cha cha closed.

Yanichel Tongson added a silver for BDT with her performance in the juvenile 1 jive closed, while finishing fourth and fifth finishes in two other events.

Tyler Alfonso and Charymagne Amangan has a silver to show in junior duo event.

Dumalos in tandem with Mary Luz It-itan for a silver in under 21 Latin and bronze in grade B amateur Latin. The pair finished sixth in grade A amateur Latin.

Xyraine Gail Bayanes came up with three bronze medals in junior 1 cha cha closed, junior 1 rhumba closed and junior 1 jive closed.

Benter (Mark Gonzalo) with Johsan Valdez had third place finish in grade D Latin cha cha cha jive, as well as fourth place finishes in grade C Latin and under 21 Latin, while a fifth place finish in grade B amateur Latin.
