The University of the Cordilleras played good defense at home last Tuesday and stopped bitter Baguio rival University of Baguio, 75-61, to end the latter’s five game winning streak in the Z League.

Comendador Cabannag scored 13 points on top of five rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Jaguars to the victory at the newly refurbished UC gym and improve to three wins against two defeats to stay at fifth spot in the 12 inter-school tournament.

It was the second straight win for the Jaguars after a 124-69 blasting of the Baguio Central University last August 14.

Cabannag roared the loudest for the Jaguars as he assembled 21 markers beside eight boards, six assists, five steals and a one block.

Saint Louis University, meanwhile, banked on Aethan Paguio’s effort under the basket where he hauled 11 big rebounds to help the Navigators stop the Eagles from BCU, 63-32.

Paguio added nine markers on top of three assists and two steals as the Navigators improved to 2-4 as University of Luzon took the top spot after three weeks of action with an immaculate 5-1 win-loss slate.

UB fell to sole second with a 5-1 card, while CHESAA champion Luzon Northwestern University looks forward to a possible fourth win when it faces the winless Eagles this Sunday at the Cordillera Career Development gym.

The Admirals of CCDC hope to improve their 4-1 slate against the Bonalonan, Pangasinan based WCC Skyhawks.

The WCC, owned by the family of Pangasinan Gov. Ramon Guico, Jr., hopes to improve on its 2-2 card.

On Sunday, the Navigators hope to play better against the Topnotch of the Philippine College of Science and Technology of Calasiao, Pangasinan. The Topnotch are just a spot better than the Louisians with a 2-3 card good for seventh spot.

“The games must go on,” swore the organizers. Pigeon Lobien
