MRR Queen of Peace Engulfed By Fire

112 residents from MRR Queen of Peace suffered from a great loss after a fire broke out at approximately 4:45 am on April 13, 2024. The fire was declared officially suppressed at 8:00 am on the morning of the same day with one casualty.

According to the report of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) as of 8:00 pm on April 13, a total of 7 houses were immersed by the fire. Six of them were entirely damaged while one was partly harmed. It was later confirmed that most of the victims were students.

Meanwhile, Mayor Benjamin Magalong held a prompt emergency meeting to administer proper and immediate support to the victims. The city government was said to provide financial assistance of P20,000 per household and P6,000 per student.

As part of the rehabilitation plan, CSWD aims to continue the profiling of the victims to provide financial and PFA assistance alongside referring them to the Socialized Housing Program, Sustainable Livelihood Program, and other agencies in case they need other pertinent papers such as Birth Certificates and Identification Cards.

To cater to the fire, approximately 10 fire trucks as well as 7 augmented water delivery services have been deployed. Currently, the LGU and DSWD continue offering assistance through temporary shelters and sleeping kits, financial aid, food assistance, medical and hygiene kits, and psychological first aid. | Cielo Angel Nicole Abendan
