Eight months after successfully winning the Balttle of the Valley in December last year, unbeaten Carl Jammes Martin recorded his 22nd win and is now ready for bigger fights.
It was a lopsided 10 round decision win for the 24-year-old Hingyon, Ifugao native as defeated Oscar Duge of Tanzania Saturday in Sucat, Paranaque.
Martin did not show sign of rustiness as he actually toyed with his sturdy but outclassed foe and end an eight-month hiatus after suffering a rib injury early this year.
The three judges all saw the fight in favor of Martin at 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92.
“I really tried to go for a knockout but he was quite good with his counter shots so I had to be wary about it and be defensive from time to time,” said Martin who improved to a 22-0 win-loss record, 17 of which came via knockout.
The Duge, 26, who never suffered a knockout defeat in his seven-year career, fell to 11-6-2 with 4 KOs.
Martin later revealed about his camp’s plans to send him to the United States to face tougher foes in an attempt to enhance his chances of fighting for the world crown. The super bantamweight is now stacked with Naoya Inoue as its toughest champion after wresting two of the belts, while the other two straps are held by Filipino Marlon Tapales.
Martin is currently rated No. 4 in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) superbantamweight rankings and No. 8 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
