15 fisherfolks, 19 fish processor associations, and 41 market vendors in Pangasinan received millions worth of fishing and other livelihood equipment from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
This donation is part of the USDA’s B-SAFE or the Building Safe Agricultural Food Enterprises project alongside Winrock International.
According to Winrock International’s B-SAFE Project Chief of Party, Belyn R. Wodehouse, the B-SAFE project aims to provide sufficient knowledge and proper equipment to the market vendors to further the food safety standards in the town.
“We try our best to continually upgrade ang standard natin at dyan sa palengke natin. So ituloy ninyo lang yung pagpupursige ng bawat isa, marami pa tayong dapat gawin. Thank you so much for the blessing you are sharing with our people”, Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil said.
Some of the donations include 3.3 million pesos worth of 40 units of Pond Seine nets, 100 units of Thermochest HDPE or Fish Banyera, 100 units of HD Cooler Boxes with Insulation UV, 10 units of Chest Freezer (11 cub. ft), and 50 units of Fish processing kits.
Meanwhile, 35 market vendors and 6 ice retailers were granted 3 waterproof durable food-grade tarpaulins for covering the ice blocks in the cold room, 30 Food-grade plastic pallets, 6 Stainless steel ice crushing machines, 6 Food-grade plastic tubs, 6 Food-grade stainless steel shovel scoop, and 35 Coolers/Ice Box with 45L capacity. | Cielo Angel Nicole V.
