Limocon nips Aromin in Pines chess club rated tourney

Former kiddies rivals Marvin Limocon and Wycliffe Aromin battled it out and finished with six points each, but the former took top place in the Open division of the Pines City Chess Club Tournament FIDE Rated over the weekend at the Baguio Center Mall.

Limocon edged his long-time adversary as he came out with 32 tiebreak points to edge out Aromin, who settled for second place.

Actually the two finished tied with Daryl Gueque after drawing two and winning five but lower tie break points of 27.5 points. Gueque settled for third with his 25 second tie break points against Aromin’s 26.

The fourth seed Tiv Omangay is the highest rated and only FIDE rated player to enter the Top 10 by finishing fourth with 5.5 points in tie with Francis William Sagyaman.

Six players finished tied with similar five points with Noel Lubrica getting the sixth place. Engielyn Agamas was the best placed female at seventh spot, followed by Kyrus Annos.

The eighth to 11th spots were occupied by John Joefrey Barry, Vic Jomar Laderas and Lionel Caroc.

Top rated Louie Christian, Elon rating 1702 could only secure four points to finish at 18th, while second seed Josiah Tristan Co (Elo 1553) finished better at 16th with a similar four points.

Dwayne Tyler Dulnuan drew one game to finish with 6.5 points to win the kiddies side.

Half a point behind is Kier Nelson Lidua who secured six points and at third Vassily Mikhail Sagyaman with 5.5 points.

Seven players had five points to occupy the fourth to 10th spots.

Daniel Mark Sapalong leads them, followed by Sean Caleb Gomez, Lance Khian Garcia,  female players Sheena Mae Marris and Mary Grace Valdez, CJ Angelo Yparraguirre and Marcus Paruli.

The open division open for 14 years and older attracted 60 woodpeckers, while the kiddies division for 13 years and younger had 41 players.
